16 year old Luke Pilsbury is one of only two scouts from the Cannock district who has been chosen to attend the 2019 Global Scout Jamboree to be held in West Virginia.

Luke is currently on a mission to raise enough money for both himself and a scout from a disadvantaged background to attend. So far he has raised £900, but with a goal of £3,700 he still has a long way to go.

Briggs offered to support Luke in raising money for the trip by hosting a ‘Name the Bunny Rabbit’ competition just before the Easter bank holiday weekend. The competition raised £50, and Briggs matched the donation bringing it up to £100.

Luke told us; “I have been in Scouts since the age of 6 where I joined the Beaver Scouts, and have stayed with the Scouts up to my present position in Explorer Scouts.  While being with the scouts I have undertaken many activities including achieving my gold scout award.  Last year I attended the Swedish National Jamboree which I self-funded. This gave me the taster to apply for a position on the Global Scout Jamboree which is to be held in West Virginia next summer.

“In addition to being an Explorer Scout I am a member of the County Scout Youth Team, who are a select group of Scouts that support the Scouting community at county level with events and meetings to improve the local scouting movement.”

“I attend Scouts twice per week, once to support my unit and on another evening to support a Cub Scout unit where I am a Young Leader supporting adults who run the troop.  As part of this activity I am required to run an event to achieve my young leader award and have decided to organise a trip to Cosford Aerospace museum this summer, with the event including a trip to the museum, a sleep over at the scout hut, transport, learning material and risk assessment. I’m keen to help people understand that Scouts is not just for boys, and not just for knots.”

Luke still has a long way to go to reach his goal, and is keen to speak to any other businesses or individuals that could help his cause. If you wish to support Luke, please contact his mum Hayley at hayley.pilsbury@gmail.com to find out how you could help.
