Football once again dominates the sports pages but, for a couple of months during the summer, some of our top stadiums regularly play host to a very different audience. During ‘concert season’ 2015 Briggs Equipment’s short-term hire team supported one of the UK’s leading events promoters as it set about transforming Wembley Stadium into the ultimate concert arena. SJM Concerts is promoter for the V Festival and builds high profile exhibitions, shows and music events around the country. At Wembley Stadium, the company used three tonne and five tonne diesel counterbalance forklifts to lay flooring and unload and transport the equipment needed to create the sets from the lorries to the site. First, the equipment was used to erect and take down the set for the ACDC extravaganza and then, because back-to-back shows are common, SJM Concerts built the stage for Ed Sheeran’s Wembley dates. With a very short window in which to dismantle one set and build another, keeping to a strict schedule is vital. SJM Concerts therefore needs reliable equipment and a quick turnaround. Roy Morley, events manager at SJM Concerts, said: “As always, Briggs Equipment provided an excellent service for all our shows at Wembley Stadium this summer. “We are confident they will deliver what they promise, and knowing that the correct machines will be where we want them, at the appointed time, helps take some of the pressure off us.” SJM Concerts will be calling on our short-term rental forklifts again in May/June 2016, when it promotes a five-date UK stadium tour by American rock band Foo Fighters.
