Over the past three years we have invested over £1M in the development and roll out of our apprenticeship scheme, taking on a new cohort of future engineers each year. This year we have taken on an additional 10 stars of the future. Here is the second of our new apprentice interviews to find out about their experiences so far.

What were you doing before you joined Briggs?

“I’ve come into the apprenticeship at 18 and before Briggs I used to work at Tesco on the check outs, which I found too repetitive. I wanted to do something that would challenge me, provide variety and give me real prospects which is what I have found with Briggs.”

What made you apply for the apprenticeship?

“My dad works in the industry and has been working for Briggs for 22 years now. He always told me how much he enjoys it so I felt that I couldn’t go far wrong by following in his footsteps.”

What has been your first impression of Briggs?

“All of the lads on the apprenticeship are really nice and friendly and it feels like we are a family already. The people working in the company are all very professional but still know how to have fun. They make sure you are alright, and that you know what you are supposed to be doing. I feel well looked after.”

Would you recommend the apprenticeship to other school leavers?

“I would definitely recommend it as it’s enjoyable. You are always doing something different so you are always challenged in a positive way and you never get bored.”

What’s the best thing about your apprenticeship?

“I like both aspects of the apprenticeship; my time at college is great because I’ve made a lot of new friends, but I really enjoy being on the job with my mentor too. I find it fascinating to see “behind the scenes” in lots of different businesses such as factories where you get to see how things are made. There is a lot that goes on that I would never usually get to see.”
